What’s a Shellfish Share?

Just like a meat or a fish share, a shellfish share is a portion of a shellfish harvester’s catch or harvest. We work with small-scale, local shellfish harvesters to provide community members with super fresh and 100% traceable shellfish in biodegradable beechwood packaging.

Why Shellfish?

New England is known for shellfish whether that means oysters, clams, mussels, scallops, or lobster. However, it can be difficult to find fresh, traceable, affordable shellfish. At Shellfish Share, we prioritize paying harvesters and our processors fairly while providing shellfishionados with delicious local shellfish that doesn’t break the bank. We base our model off of Local Catch Community Supported Fisheries/ Aquaculture core values (CSA/CSFs). Right now we offer CSA/ CSF shares of Massachusetts oysters and littleneck clams. However, stay tuned for mussels, razor clams, crabs, and scallops in the future!

Traceability

Traceability is the ability to trace the movement of items throughout a supply chain. We utilize a traceability software system called Blue Trace, designed for shellfish grower and wholesaler traceability and compliance. When it comes to fresh-live shellfish (especially oysters and clams that can be eaten raw) it’s really important to track harvest information and ensure that the shellfish is stored below 45°F.
